Our Story

In 2002, two young moms started making baby carriers inspired from traditional models similar to those found in their country of origin, Colombia. The idea then was simply to have them for their personal use, but their Mama Kangaroo Inc. project was born in September 2003 when they realized that other parents where constantly asking how they could get the same carriers for their baby. While listening to their clientele's baby wearing needs, they came up with five innovative models of Baby Carriers and in January 2004, Mama Kangaroo Inc. took its first leap! In June 2004, no more than 6 month later, Mama Kangaroo gets rewarded with 3 prizes at the Quebec Entrepreneurship Contest, including first prize in the Trades category.

The company, wishing to establish baby wearing as a life style, is based on an intense nursing and parental attachment philosophy. This philosophy is a source of inspiration for both founders, and thanks to their motivation, Mama Kangaroo Inc. does not need long before it gets in the spotlight and the results are incredible!

To educate people about baby wearing and to make it available to every new and expectant parent, Mama Kangaroo Inc. created the Kangaroo Club and started to work in collaboration with professionals and organisms that share the same points of view about parenthood.

Since January 2006 from a common agreement, only one of the founders assures the business's continuation, but with its 11 devoted employees, more than 100 retailers and 4 distributors around the globe, Mama Kangaroo Inc. is proudly leaping toward new horizons...

Our philosophy

Beliefs and traditions can teach us much about the simplicity of things! For centuries, parents from around the world have carried their little ones cuddled against them... Why? Because it seams like it's the most natural thing to do, isn't it? Don't we always want to hold babies? There probably is a logical explanation for that. Of course! It's because our human babies, like other primates, need to be carried. Baby Wearing is closely related with what is called parental attachment. The privileged baby/parent contact from Baby Wearing improves socio-affective, psychomotor and neurobiological development.

That is what Mama Kangaroo always has in Mind. We want everyone to understand the importance of traditional baby wearing and to be conscious of the impact it can have on everyday life, for the baby and the whole family! We offer a variety of baby carriers, all secure, comfortable, ergonomic and convenient to respond to all baby wearing needs. We created The Club Kangourou helping parents to learn about parental attachment and share their baby wearing tricks, and we are also collaborating with professionals and organisms to educate people on how to make being a parent easier and more relaxed.

In short, at Mama Kangaroo, making Baby Wearing a lifestyle is our priority. Our mission is related to community, that's why we concentrate on information and are always seeking for better knowledge. It is always a great pleasure to answer your questions...

We are your baby wearing resource!
